Super Eagles Stars, NFF Back Rohr For CAF Award

By Bamidele Boluwaji: Nigeria Football Federation’s Technical Director, Bitrus Bewarang, and Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechuchuku Ezenwa have given their support to national team coach Gernot Rohr for the 2017 CAF Coach of the Year Award, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Rohr, who led Nigeria to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Hector Cuper of Egypt and L’Hussein Amoutta of Wydad Athletic Club have been nominated for the Coach of the Year Award billed to hold in Accra, Ghana on January 4.

Speaking to Completesportsnigeria.com, Bewarang said Rohr has done well to deserve the award after playing all his World Cup qualifying matches without a defeat.

According to Bewarang, the former OG Nice of France gaffer remains the best among the three coaches nominated for the award.

“Rohr is our coach and we are all supporting him to win the award. He has done well by leading us through the World Cup qualifiers without a defeat, so it is our prayer that he wins,” Bewarang told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa who also spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com via the team’s Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, said all the players are backing the Franco-German coach and they will be happy to see him win the award.

“We are praying for the coach to win the award because if he wins, it will also be to our honour that he wins it when he is with the Super Eagles, we are all supporting him,” Ezenwa said

Also backing the Super Eagles coach for the CAF award is Akwa United’s Ifeanyi Ifeanyi who said Rohr’s presence in the Super Eagles has won more support for the Nigerian team.

“Super Eagles today is a team everybody wants to watch and that is because of the performance of the players and what the coach has added to team, so I think he deserves to win the CAF award because of the progress Nigeria had made so far this year,”,Ifeanyi told Completesportsnigeria.com

Meanwhile, Ibitoye said there is a need for every Nigerian to support the coach to win the award.

“We are supporting the coach and we believe he has done enough to deserve it. We played in the toughest group of the World Cup qualifiers and yet Nigeria remains the only team not defeated in any game and for that excellent job, I think Rohr deserves it and Nigerians should pray for him to win the award,” Ibitoye told Completesportsnigeria.com.
