Agege Stadium To Host Plateau United, USM Alger CAFCC Clash

By Adeboye Amosu:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Nigerian champions Plateau United will play their CAF Confederation Cup play-off round,  first leg fixture against Algeria’s USM Alger next Saturday at the Agege Stadium, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Jos club were prevented from using the New Jos Stadium for their Champions League game against Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia early this month by the Confederation of African Football as the venue is still under construction.

Instead, the game was staged at the Sani Abacha Stadium, home of four-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions Kano Pillars.

“CAF gave us the option of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo and the Agege Stadium and we picked the latter,” Plateau United media  officer, Albert Yakup, revealed to CSN on Saturday.

“We picked the Agege Stadium because the playing surface is artificial as against the Uyo Stadium which has natural grass.

“Our players are used to playing on synthetic pitch and we don’t want to risk anything by exposing them to a playing surface they are not familiar with.

“So, we will arrive in Lagos on Wednesday for the game and we expect the fans to come out in large numbers to give us their support.”

Kennedy Boboye’s men will hope to make it to the group stages of the competition after they were knocked out of the CAF Champions League 4-3 on aggregate by Etoile du Sahel.
