Ronaldo, Modric Rested As Espanyol Shock Real Madrid

Real Madrid rested key players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos and dearly paid for it as Gerard Moreno’s stoppage-time goal gave Espanyol a shock 1-0 LaLiga win against the champions at the RCDE Stadium on Tuesday night.

Espanyol condemned Real Madrid to their fifth league defeat of the season and ended their four-game winning run in the Spanish top flight.

On the other hand, Espanyol ended an 11-game losing streak against Real Madrid in all competitions.

Despite the weakened side, Madrid were the dominant side but the hosts also created chances on the break.

The breakthrough finally arrived for Espanyol when Moreno struck home in the third minute of added time.

The defeat left Real Madrid in third place in the table with 51 points from 26 games, 14 points adrift of leaders Barcelona who have a game in hand.

Espanyol are up to 13th with 31 points.
