Llorente Hits Hat-trick As Spurs Fly Past Rochdale Into FA Cup Quarter-Finals

Tottenham Hotspur avoided an upset in the Emirates FA Cup by annihilating lower league club Rochdale 6-1 in their fifth round replay at a snowy Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night.

A second half hat-trick in the space of 12 minutes from Fernando Llorente, a strike from Kyle Walker-Peters and a brace from Heung-Min Son secured a 6-1 win for Tottenham.

Stephen Humphrys had scored a fabulous strike to restore parity for Rochdale in the 24th minute after Son shot Tottenham into the lead seven minutes earlier.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will face will face Swansea in quarter-finals on Saturday, 17 March.

Tottenham had two goals disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the first half but did not allow that deter them as they fought hard to get the opener through Son who fired in a low shot after he was teed up by Erick Lamela. The goal ended his nine-game goalless streak.

Rochdale levelled scored through Humphrys, who latched onto Andy Cannon’s cross before slotting the ball past Michel Vorm from close range.

Llorente made it 2-1 for Spurs with a lovely dink over Josh Lillis and into the net after Lucas Moura had played him through on goal early in the second half.

The Spanish forward bagged his brace after poking the ball into the net from close range after Moura provided the assist again.

He sealed his treble, heading in Son’s floated pass in the box.

Kyle Walker-Peters who came on for Moura in the 82nd minute wrapped up the win for Spurs in the 94th minute with a cool finish from close range.
