NPFL: Pillars Stop Plateau As Akwa United Stay Top; Enyimba, MFM Win

By Adeboye Amosu: Champions Plateau United suffered their second defeat of the season after going down 2-0 against Kano Pillars in their Nigeria Professional Football League fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Junior Lokosa scored both goals for the Sai Masu Gida in the 21st and 27th minutes.

The former First Bank forward has now scored six goals for the four-time NPFL champions this season to top the scorers’ chart.

The win lifted Pillars to third position in the table, while Plateau United remain second behind Akwa United.

Akwa United maintained top spot in the table following a 1-1 draw against FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi.

Cyril Olisema put the Promise Keepers ahead in the 12th minute, while captain Patrick Ikeokwu levelled scores for the hosts two minutes after the break.

In Akure, Sunshine Stars extended their unbeaten home run to seven games with a 1-0 against El-Kanemi Warriors.

Kehinde Adedipe grabbed the winning goal in the 26th minute.

Enyimba winger Stanley Dimgba scored for the third consecutive game as the Peoples Elephant defeated Abia Warriors 1-0 in their local derby in Calabar.

It was Enyimba’s second win of the season.

MFM FC also returned to winning ways, edging out hard-fighting Wikki Tourists 2-1 at the Agege Stadium.

Waheed Adebayo scored the opening goal on in the sixth minute after good work by Jesse Akila.

The lead lasted only 10 minutes before Nafiu Kabuga equalised for Wikki Tourists from the spot.

Akila however got the winner five minutes before the break.

Yobe Desert Stars also secured a slim 1-0 win against in Damaturu.

Chinedu Ohanachom scored the decisive goal five minutes after the break
